2024 WAC Baseball Release - Week 13
GCU LOOKS TO LOCK UP TOP SEED WITH ACU AWAITING THE LOPES
Grand Canyon ran its active conference winning streak to six games, as part of an eight-game overall winning streak, by decisively sweeping California Baptist last weekend. With a 19-5 (.792) record in WAC competition, the Lopes can lock up the one seed in the 2024 University Credit Union WAC Baseball Tournament with a successful series against Abilene Christian May 10-12. GCU has won nine of 10 games overall, while ACU will enter the weekend set 7-3 in its past 10 starts.
WILSON CLUBS HIS WAY TO WAC POTW
Grand Canyon senior utility player
Tyler Wilson won WAC Player of the Week honors on May 6. Wilson batted .467 with five extra-base hits, eight RBIs, a 1.133 slugging percentage and six runs scored against #21 Arizona and California Baptist last week. Wilson finished a single shy of the cycle, driving in two runs and scoring four times for the Lopes in a 24-8 win in seven innings at Arizona on April 30. Wilson logged five RBIs, including a sixth-inning grand slam, in a 14-2 win in seven in game two of a sweep of CBU on May 4.
CAN TARLETON STATE RECAPTURE THE MOMENTUM?
In a tie for second place in the WAC at 15-9 (.625) entering games on May 10, Tarleton State is poised for a run at a double-bye as a potential top-two tournament seed. The Texans have won four straight league games but are looking to rebound from a five-game losing skid overall after dropping midweek games to Texas A&M and Baylor and a non-league series at Sam Houston in the past week.
UVU ON THE VERGE OF 100 HOMERS
Through 49 games thus far this season, Utah Valley has clubbed a team total of 98 home runs to lead all WAC offenses. The Wolverines have hit three or more big flies in a game on 16 different occasions thus far in 2024 and are poised to be the first WAC lineup with 100 or more team home runs in a campaign since 2010. Utah Valley checked in 10th in NCAA Division I in home runs as of May 9.
