Four WAC Athletes Earn All-America Honors In Opening Days Of 2024 NCAA DI Track And Field Championships

EUGENE, Ore
. – Following the first two days of competition at the 2024 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, four athletes representing the WAC claimed All-America honors at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field. An additional conference standout punched her ticket to a national final round later in the weekend.

Grand Canyon’s Israel Oloyede captured first-team All-America accolades on June 5 in the men’s hammer throw. Oloyede finished in fourth place with a final round throw of 75.29m/247-0 to establish a personal best in the event.

UT Arlington’s Randon Gray earned All-America second-team plaudits in the men’s pole vault final on June 5. Gray cleared a personal best height of 5.37m/17-7.25 to finish in 14th place.

Also on the opening day of men’s events on June 5, California Baptist’s Valentin Soca added All-America second-team honors in the men’s 10,000-meter run. Soca placed 16th with a time of 28:54.67 to land right on the All-America placement line in the event.

UT Arlington’s Lucas Van Klaveren capped two days of the men’s Decathlon with a fifth-place finish on June 6, scoring 7,927 points to land on the All-America first team. Van Klaveren was the sub-event winner in the javelin throw with a top attempt of 60.67m/199-0.

Defending national runner-up Greta Karinauskaite from California Baptist placed sixth in the prelim heats of the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase on June 6. Karinauskaite will race in the national final on June 8 at approximately 2:54 p.m. PT following a prelim time of 9:50.11.

Championship coverage will continue on the ESPN networks at 6 p.m. PT on June 7 (ESPN2) and 2:30 p.m. PT on June 8 (ESPN).
