WAC 2024 WSOC Release Week 2

UTAH VALLEY REMAINS ON NATIONAL RADAR
The Wolverines continue to make noise in the world of collegiate women’s soccer as they received votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll for the second straight week. They tied Virginia Tech with 14 points and are the next team into the Top 25, just behind #25 NC State who received 23 points.

FOX’S HAT TRICK LIFTS THE TRAILBLAZERS
This week’s WAC Offensive Player of the Week, Lacy Fox, was the hero for Utah Tech last Thursday as she recorded her first career hat trick to win the game for the Trailblazers 3-2 over UNLV. All three of Fox’s goals came in a span of 12:55 in the second half.

HAMM’S FIRST CAREER GOAL
Grand Canyon only saw one shot on goal against Utah, but it was the only shot that mattered. With five minutes left remaining in the match, Madison Hamm launched a left-footed strike from outside the box that was the equalizer in a 1-1 draw against the Utes. It was the sophomore’s first career goal, and it propelled her to this week’s WAC Defensive Player of the Week.

GRISSOM AND THE TEXANS’ RECORD-BREAKING NIGHT
Tarleton State’s first win of the season came in grand fashion, taking down Austin College 8-0. As a team, the Texans set new school records of 46 shots, 23 shots on goal, 17 corner kicks, eight goals, and six assists. Lauren Grissom set the Tarleton State single-game goal and points record, scoring four goals in an 11-minute span.

EARLY DEFENSIVE STRENGTH FROM ROSS AND THE WILDCATS
Abilene Christian has showcased their defensive strength early on this season as they have yet to allow a goal in two games. Lili Ross has protected the net in both games for the Wildcats and has recorded six saves in those matches.

SIX TEAMS ENTER WEEK 3 AT OR ABOVE .500
As the league enters week three of the women’s soccer season, six teams currently hold a winning percentage of .500 or higher. All six of these teams have either one or no losses. Utah Tech currently sits at the top of the standings with a 1-0-2 record and a .667 winning percentage.
