ARLINGTON, Texas – Seattle U’s Caroline Penner and Utah Valley’s Haley Funn and Leah Wolf have been named the Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Soccer Offensive Player, Defensive Player, and Goalkeeper of the Week, for the match week ending on Monday, Sept. 9.
 
Penner, a junior midfielder, led the Redhawks to a 2-0 week by scoring four goals including a hat trick in Seattle U’s first ever win against Oregon State. Penner collected her second goal of the season in a 3-1 win over Hawaii and followed that up with her second career hat trick, lifting the Redhawks to a 4-1 victory versus the Beavers. Penner’s stellar week puts her tied atop of the WAC leaderboard for most points (11) and goals (5) in the season.
 
Funn, a redshirt junior, anchored the UVU defense to a 2-0 shutout win against their in-state rival and Big 12 foe, Utah, for the Wolverines’ first-ever win over the Utes in nine tries. Funn and UVU defense consistently made stops that led to the Wolverines holding possession for 55% of the match.
 
Wolf, a junior goalkeeper, played 135 minutes in the box this week without giving up a single goal. Wolf picked up the shutout win and made five saves in UVU’s win against Utah. Wolf also played the second half of the match against #11 Utah where she tallied six saves and prevented the ranked Aggies from scoring.
