WAC 2024 WSOC Release Week 5
SEATTLE U’S HOT STREAK TAKES THE REDHAWKS TO THE TOP
Seattle U enters week five on a four-game winning streak and a six-game unbeaten streak, not suffering a loss since their season-opener at Oregon. The Redhawks are coming off a two-win weekend that included their first ever win against Oregon State thanks to a hat trick from Caroline Penner, awarding her the Offensive Player of the Week. This hot streak has taken Seattle U to the top of the WAC standings with a record of 5-1-1.
ABILENE CHRISTIAN STANDS ALONE AS THE FINAL UNDEFEATED TEAM IN THE WAC
After four weeks of play, Abilene Christian is the last undefeated team in the conference, currently sitting at 2-0-4. The Wildcats have shown their defensive strength by only allowing two goals so far into the season. ACU will face their toughest challenge yet, as they head to Mississippi State who received 15 votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll.
UTAH VALLEY WINS FIRST EVER MATCH AGAINST UTAH
Utah Valley halted a three-game losing skid by beating their in-state rival Utah 2-0 on Sunday night. This was UVU’s first ever win against the Utes in nine matches. The big victory for the Wolverines awarded them two of this week’s player of the week awards: Haley Funn for Defensive Player of the Week and Leah Wolf for Goalkeeper of the Week. UVU is now 2-1-1 against major conference opponents this season.
SARAH ASSUMMA LEADS SOUTHERN UTAH TO VICTORY
Southern Utah scored their first win of the season on Thursday against Colorado College 2-0 thanks to strong offensive performance from Sarah Assumma who scored the two goals on the match, her first goals as a Thunderbird. Assumma was assisted by Whitney Gardner on both goals.
