2024 WAC VB Release Week 5
LET THE CONFERENCE PLAY BEGIN
After four weeks of competitive non-conference matches, this Thursday will mark the beginning of conference play as the WAC membership will begin to compete for a spot in the WAC Volleyball Tournament hosted by UT Arlington on November 21-23.
UT ARLINGTON HOLDS ONTO STANDINGS LEAD
At the conclusion of the non-conference slate, UT Arlington remains on top of the WAC standings at 10-2, thanks to a historic nine-game winning streak to start the season. Utah Valley lurks right behind UTA in second place as they trail the Mavericks by one game at 9-3.
TARLETON STATE ENTERS CONFERENCE PLAY ON A HOT STREAK
Tarleton State defended their home court last week by winning the Tarleton State Invitational and sweeping the week 4-0. The Texans took down Oral Roberts 3-1, Alcorn 3-0, Houston Christian 3-2, and ULM 3-2. This week’s Player of the Week, Allison Bryant, was named the tournament MVP. The Texans look to carry the hot hand into the opening week of conference play.
ELIF TEKSOY HITS 1,000 CAREER ASSISTS
Seattle U’s sophomore setter, Elif Teksoy, surpassed the 1,000 career assists mark in the Redhawk’s 3-0 win over Air Force. Teksoy became just the sixth player in Seattle U’s D-I era to accomplish the feat. Teksoy currently ranks sixth in the WAC in assists per set with 6.79.
HOME COURT ADVANTAGE?
One key to success in WAC volleyball early in the season seems to be having the home court advantage. After four weeks, the league is 20-10 (.667) when playing at home and 5-26 (.161) playing as the visitor. California Baptist, Seattle U, Southern Utah, and Utah Tech all have two home matches this week.
