ARLINGTON, Texas – Grand Canyon’s Bright Nutornutsi, Utah Valley’s Tom Dobek-Pietrowski and California Baptist’s Hugo Do Rego have been named the University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men’s Soccer Offensive Player, Defensive Player and Goalkeeper of the Week, for the match week ending on Monday, Sept. 2.

Nutornutsi, a junior forward, repeated as the conference’s top weekly offensive player following a second straight two-goal performance for GCU during a 3-2 win against Duke on Aug. 30 in Cary, North Carolina. Nutornutsi opened the scoring against Duke at 27:33 and added another goal at 42:51 to send the Lopes to the half with a 2-0 lead. Nutornutsi is believed to be the first WAC player to register back-to-back multi-goal matches since Air Force’s Tristan Trager scored consecutive hat tricks against GCU (Oct. 31) and UNLV (Nov. 2) in 2019.

Dobek-Pietrowski, a graduate defender, helped anchor the Utah Valley backline for 84 minutes of a 3-1 victory against UC San Diego on Aug. 29 to keep the Wolverines unbeaten thus far in the 2024 season. UCSD managed only four total shots (three on goal) during the contest, collecting its lone goal in the 71st minute by way of a penalty kick when Utah Valley held a 2-0 lead.

Do Rego, a sophomore goalkeeper, earned a second straight weekly goalkeeper award following another strong performance for CBU. Do Rego turned aside eight shots, including seven saves in the first half, to allow the Lancers to build a 3-0 lead before surrendering his first goal of the season after 231:27 of total match time in a 4-1 win over CSU Bakersfield on Aug. 31.
