UTAH VALLEY REMAINS RED HOT TO TAKE SOLO WAC LEAD
Utah Valley extended its active winning streak to six games with a pair of conference wins at home last weekend. The Wolverines took down defending WAC champion Grand Canyon 72-64 on Jan. 9 before downing California Baptist 75-69 on Jan. 11 at the UCCU Center.
Dominick Nelson scored 21 points and pulled down eight rebounds in the GCU win before adding 15 points and seven boards against CBU. Utah Valley has climbed over 45 spots in the NCAA NET since mid-December during its extended winning streak.
MONCRIEFFE LOGS EIGHTH DOUBLE-DOUBLE TO EARN FIRST WAC POTW

Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe registered his conference-high eighth double-double of 2024-25 to help lead the Redhawks to their first league victory of the season, a 66-64 decision over Abilene Christian on Jan. 11. Moncrieffe finished the game with 23 points and 11 rebounds, connecting on the winning layup with four seconds remaining to bring Seattle U all the way back from an 11-point deficit midway through the second half. Moncrieffe’s eight double-doubles thus far this season ranked eighth among all NCAA Division I players as of Jan. 14.
UTAH TECH STARTS CONFERENCE PLAY 2-0
Utah Tech made its 2024-25 WAC conference season debut with a homestand against UT Arlington and Tarleton State. The Trailblazers defeated UTA 74-62 on Jan. 9 and followed up that performance with a 58-54 victory against Tarleton State to begin league action 2-0.
Hakim Byrd registered 21 points and five rebounds for Utah Tech in the UTA triumph before chipping in 14 points and four assists versus Tarleton State. Utah Tech’s 15 made 3-pointers as a team against UTA were the third-most in a game in the WAC this season.
TARLETON STATE SURGE CONTINUES TWO WEEKS INTO CONFERENCE PLAY
Despite falling in its most recent start at Utah Tech on Jan. 11 (58-54 loss), Tarleton State has still strung together four wins in its last five games to settle into third place in the WAC standings at 2-1.
Keitenn Bristow has been a standout for Tarleton State during its run of form, shooting 57.1 percent from the floor (60.0 percent from 3-point range) to average a team-high 16.6 points per contest in the last five games.
Bubu Benjamin has averaged 15.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game over the same stretch.
DANIELS IN THE NATIONAL TOP 10 IN SCORING
California Baptist guard
Dominique Daniels Jr. checked in eighth in points per game in the latest NCAA Division I statistics report on Jan. 14 after averaging 21.3 points over his first 16 starts. Daniels has scored 20 or more points on nine different occasions this season to share the lead among all players in the WAC with Southern Utah’s
Jamir Simpson.
