ARLINGTON, Texas – Grand Canyon’s Laura Erikstrup and California Baptist’s Emma Johansson have been named the Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week, for the game week ending on Saturday, Jan. 18.
 
Erikstrup, a graduate forward, led Grand Canyon to its 15^th straight win as she picked up her third WAC Player of the Week award this season. Erikstrup averaged 19.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 57.1 percent from the field (12-of-21) and 77.8 percent from the charity stripe (14-of-18). Erikstrup notched her fifth double-double of the season with an 18-point, 13-rebound performance against Abilene Christian. She followed that up with her sixth 20-point game of the year against Tarleton State. Erikstrup holds the best field goal percentage in all games in the WAC this season, shooting 60.5 percent (124-of-205) from the field.
 
Johansson, a junior forward transfer, recorded a career-high 18 points and six blocks against Tarleton State in a nail-biting victory for CBU over the Texans. Johansson was an offensive and defensive force on the court for the Lancers as she shot 50.0 percent (11-of-22) on the weekend and averaged 13.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.0 blocks, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals. Johansson’s six blocks against Tarleton State was the most blocks recorded in a game this year for the WAC and she currently sits 20^th in the nation in total blocks with 38.
