ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington’s
Winnie Kipsang and Grand Canyon’s
Taryn Burkett have been named the Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the competition week ending on Saturday, Jan. 25.
Kipsang earned her first weekly track honor after performing in the 800-meter run at the Ted Nelson Invitational. She clocked a WAC-leading time of 2:08.81, securing a second-place finish in a highly competitive field. Her time stands as the fastest in the conference this season by nearly seven full seconds.
Burkett excelled in the field events, breaking Grand Canyon’s school record in the triple jump with a mark of 13.00m at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational. Her performance set a new GCU program best, ranking first in the WAC and 23rd in the NCAA this season.
