ARLINGTON, Texas – Southern Utah’s Ava Uhrich and Tarleton State’s Shadasia Brackens have been named the Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, Dec. 21.
 
Uhrich, a junior forward, was named the LMU Tournament MVP as she led the WAC last week with 24.5 points per game along with a 67.9 field goal percentage (19-of-28). Uhrich notched 23 points in Southern Utah’s 80-47 victory over Omaha and followed with a season-high 26 points against LMU. Uhrich concluded the non-conference slate leading the WAC in rebounding (8.83) and ranking second in the league in field goal percentage (.466).
 
Brackens, a junior forward from North Texas, nearly averaged a double-double last week, recording 14.5 points per game and nine rebounds per game in the ACU Christmas Classic. Brackens collected her fourth straight double-double, and WAC-high fifth of the season, on Friday against the defending WNIT champions, Buffalo, with 10 points and 10 boards. Brackens then knocked down 19 points in an overtime contest with Montana, one point shy of a career-high.
