ARLINGTON, Texas –Tarleton State’s Jakoriah Long and UT Arlington’s Koi Love have been named the Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week, for the game week ending on Saturday, Feb. 8.
 
Long, a senior guard, posted back-to-back games with 25 points, helping Tarleton State to two home wins over Seattle U and Utah Valley. Long became the first Texan in the D1 era to record two consecutive 25-point games and to have back-to-back games with six or more 3-pointers, including knocking down seven shots beyond the arc against Seattle U, a new D1 single game program record. She posted her third straight game with at least 20 points, becoming the first Texan to do so since the 2022-23 season. Long shot 59.1 percent from 3-point range (13-of-22) and 53.6 percent from the floor overall (15-of-28). Along with 25.0 points per game, she also averaged 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
 
Love, a fifth-year forward transfer, claimed her eighth WAC Newcomer of the Week honor this year after leading UT Arlington to another two-win week and averaging 15.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game, while shooting 56 percent from the field (14-of-25). Love posted 12 points in a hard-fought victory over Utah Valley followed by a 19-point performance in UTA’s sixth-straight victory which came against Seattle U.
