ARLINGTON, Texas – Seattle U’s
Taylor Fitch and
Nicola Simpson have been named the Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, Feb. 16.
Fitch, a junior third baseman, batted .389 in five starts last weekend and tallied seven hits and four runs in 18 at-bats. Fitch combined for 10 RBIs while hitting one home run, one triple, and four doubles. In Seattle U’s second game against Pacific, Fitch went 3-for-5 with five RBIs and two doubles. Fitch’s big weekend brought her season OPS to 1.280.
Simpson, a senior right-handed pitcher, pitched a total of 16.0 innings including two complete games where she allowed no earned runs. Simpson struck out 18 batters and allowed only four hits and two walks. Simpson earned a one-hit shutout victory with seven K’s against Pacific and tied a career-high of eight strikeouts versus Utah State. After a 0.00 ERA weekend, Simpson lowers her league-leading season ERA to 0.97.
