2024-25 WAC WBB Week 16 Release

GRAND CANYON IS FEELING 22
The Lopes took down the third and second place teams in the WAC standings, Tarleton State (76-60) and UT Arlington (82-69), to remain undefeated in conference play at 11-0 and help Grand Canyon move up to second in the Mid-Major Top 25 Poll. With UCLA's loss last week, GCU is now the owner of the longest active winning streak in NCAA women's basketball at 22 consecutive wins. The Lopes' overall record of 24-2 ties their D1 program record for wins in a season, matching last year's team that went 24-8.

Grand Canyon will have the opportunity to capture at least a share of the WAC regular season title with a win this Saturday versus California Baptist along with a UT Arlington loss. If the Lady Mavs defeat Tarleton State, the regular season title will remain up for grabs for another week.

CALIFORNIA BAPTIST UPSETS UTA, FENDS OFF UTU
California Baptist took two wins last week and have won four of its last five games, the one loss coming to GCU a couple of weeks ago. The Lancers put a halt to UT Arlington's six game winning streak by putting up 90 points, the highest single-game scoring total for CBU this season. The Lancers followed that up with a road victory against Utah Tech where they held off a late fourth-quarter rally from the Trailblazers. CBU took advantage of a strong finish to the third quarter where they ended on an 18-3 run and outscored UTU in the quarter 23-9. The WAC's leading scorer in conference play Khloe Lemon had another standout weekend, recording 24.5 points per game while shooting 60.9 percent (14-of-23) from the floor and 56.3 percent from beyond the arc (9-of-16).

SOUTHERN UTAH SWEEPS THE UTAH RIVALRY WEEK
Southern Utah went into the houses of both of its in-state conference rivals last week and took over the rivalry matches by winning both road games against Utah Tech (69-66) and Utah Valley (72-63). The Thunderbirds' 72 points against UVU was the highest scoring performance for SUU in conference play this season. Ava Uhrich and Daylani Ballena were the two top performers for Southern Utah as the pair combined for 40.0 points per game. Uhrich and Ballena both posted a season-high in points against a D1 opponent this year in the game versus UVU as Uhrich led the team with 27 points and Ballena following with 21.

THE 24-25 TEXANS MAKE TARLETON STATE HISTORY
Tarleton State defeated Seattle U 79-76 last Saturday in comeback fashion, using a strong third quarter where it outscored the Redhawks 26-9 to propel it to victory. This win marks the Texans' 17th victory this season, which sets a program record for most wins in a single season, breaking the 2021-22 record of 16 wins. Senior guard Arieona Rosborough also set a TSU single season D1 program record of 103 free throws made this season, the most in the WAC.

ABILENE CHRISTIAN CLAIMS THIRD STRAIGHT VICTORY
Abilene Christian won its lone game of last week against Seattle U 84-62 to improve its winning streak to three games. Four Wildcats posted 14 or more points including Breanna Davis and Meredith Mayes who both led the team with 17 apiece, a career-high for Davis. Mayes continues to lead the WAC in field goal percentage in conference play at 67.5 percent (56-of-83). ACU has scored 84 points in three of its last four games and is averaging 81.5 points per game in that span.
