ARLINGTON, Texas – Grand Canyon’s Karina Hofbauer, and the doubles team of Emma Persson and Maretha Burger have been named the Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Tennis Players of the Week, for the competition week ending on Sunday, Feb. 23.
 
Competing on Court 1 for the Lopes, the freshman Karina led her team with outstanding performances this past week in San Luis Obispo. She secured victories in both of her singles matches against tough opponents from Gonzaga and Cal Poly. Against Gonzaga’s top player, she notched a commanding straight-set win and continued her success in doubles, dominating the court with a 6-1 victory. Hofbauer was instrumental in GCU's efforts against Cal Poly, where she was one of only two players to earn a point in a challenging matchup.
 
The doubles pair of Persson and Burger demonstrated their dominance this week with a decisive 6-3 win over New Mexico. Playing at the No. 1 doubles spot, their victory was instrumental in Tarleton State's 5-1 team triumph over New Mexico State. This win played a key role in securing the doubles point for the Texans. Burger achieved her 22nd career doubles win, while Persson marked her 30th career victory at Tarleton State. Their partnership has resulted in seven wins out of their first eight matches for the second consecutive season. This victory marks their third WAC Player of the Week award this season and their second consecutive weekly honor.
