ARLINGTON, Texas – Tarleton State’s Maria Castano and the team of Noelia Lorca and Ximena Morales have been named the Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Tennis Players of the Week, for the competition week ending on Sunday, Feb. 2.

Castano, a freshman, won both of her singles matches last week playing at the number four court against Prairie View A&M and the fifth singles court versus Houston. Castano defeated PVAMU’s Joanne Fernandes 6-0, 6-1 as part of a 7-0 Tarleton State team sweep on Feb. 1 before dropping Houston’s Sophie Schouten 6-1, 6-4 for the lone Texan point in a 4-1 team defeat at the hands of the Cougars on Feb. 2.

Lorca, a senior, and Morales, a junior, earned a win at the second court against Houston on Feb. 2 to keep Tarleton State in play for the doubles point. The Texan pair defeated Houston’s Iva Shepa and Valeriia Krokhotina 6-3 to earn Lorca and Morales their first win as a duo this season.
