2024-25 WAC WBB Week 14 Release

THE STREAK GOES ON, GRAND CANYON WINS 19TH STRAIGHT
Grand Canyon's winning streak has now reached historic program heights, as the 19-game winning streak breaks the program record of 18 straight wins, last reached in the 2007-08 season. The streak remains the second longest active winning streak in the country behind UCLA's 21. The Lopes moved to 8-0 in conference play after getting two more road wins last week at Seattle U (88-50) and Utah Valley (76-64). With the win against the Redhawks, GCU has recorded its fourth consecutive 20-win season for the first time in program history. The Lopes also now hold the sixth best field goal percentage in the country as a team at 49.3 percent. Graduate forward Laura Erikstrup has the 12th best number nationally in that statistic, shooting 60.8 percent this season.

THE TEXAS TEAMS WRANGLE THEIR UTAH ROAD TRIPS
UT Arlington and Tarleton State each made its way to Utah last week to take on Southern Utah and Utah Tech, and both the Lady Mavs and Texans came away 2-0 on the road trips. UTA remained second in the conference standings at 7-1, only one game behind GCU. TSU tied Utah Valley for third at 5-3, but not for long as the Texans battle the Wolverines this Saturday, Feb. 8 for the first time this season. UT Arlington's dynamic duo swept this week's WAC weekly honors as Avery Brittingham took the Player of the Week award and Koi Love won her seventh Newcomer of the Week award this season. Brittingham averaged a double-double last week with 20.5 points and 14.5 rebounds while Love averaged 13.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game.

CALIFORNIA BAPTIST GETS ITS WILDCAT REVENGE
California Baptist won its lone game last week in a shootout nailbiter against Abilene Christian 87-84, getting its revenge on the Wildcats after suffering a loss in their first matchup 71-55. The Lancers' 87 points was a season-high for the team this year as CBU set a season-high shooting of 55.6 percent (30-of-54) from the field. The WAC's leading scorer in conference play, sophomore guard Khloe Lemon, led the team with 29 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field, going 6-of-9 from distance. Junior forward Grace Schmidt returned to the court for the Lancers and totaled 11 points, five rebounds, two assists and a block.

DURAZO-FRESCAS CONTINUES TO BREAK GCU RECORDS
After missing three games, Lopes senior guard Alyssa Durazo-Frescas made her return to the starting lineup for GCU last Thursday. Durazo-Frescas posted 23 points last week and knocked down six shots from beyond the arc to raise her total 3-point count to 79 on the season. Her 77th 3-pointer, which came against Utah Valley, set a new GCU D1 era single-season record for most 3's in a season. Durazo-Frescas continues to lead the nation in 3-pointers per game with 3.95 and is still second in total three-pointers even with the three missed games. With eight games and the postseason remaining for GCU, Durazo-Frescas will look to aim for Becky Hammon's (Colorado State, 1998-99) WAC record of 114 3-point field goals made in a season.
