Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above WAC Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week Announced

ARLINGTON, Texas – Tarleton State’s Victoria Cameron and Grand Canyon’s Taryn Burkett have been named the Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, for the competition week ending on Saturday, Feb. 1.

Cameron, a sophomore, picked up her second weekly track award of the indoor season after running a blazing fast time in the 60m dash for Tarleton State at the Stan Scott Invite and Multis on Jan. 30 in Lubbock. Cameron clocked a semifinal time of 7.16 (converted from 7.14) for the fastest 60 dash time in WAC history, the second ranked NCAA Division I 60 dash time this season as of Feb. 5 and the fifth-fastest time in the world this year. Cameron broke both the Tarleton State program and WAC conference record with a time of 7.20 (converted from 7.18) in the prelim heats.

Burkett, a senior, repeated as the conference’s top field performer for the second straight week following a strong triple jump showing at the New Mexico Team Open on Jan. 31 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Burkett finished second in the event with a top mark of 13.01m (42-8.25) in the third round, the best in the WAC this season and 25th ranked in the NCAA as of Feb. 5.
