ARLINGTON, Texas – Grand Canyon’s
Savannah Kirk and Seattle U’s
Avari Morris have been named the Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, Mar. 9.
Kirk, a sophomore infielder, carried the WAC’s best batting average into last week, collecting seven hits in 12 at-bats (.583) to improve her season average to .513 through 23 games. Kirk drove in two RBIs while crossing home plate five times and was a perfect 5-for-5 on stolen base attempts. Kirk went 2-for-2 with a walk, scored all three times when on base and picked up two stolen bases against Penn on Mar. 7.
Morris, a left-handed sophomore pitcher, went back-to-back in the WAC Pitcher of the Week honor after throwing a complete game one-hit shutout against Abilene Christian on Mar. 7. Morris went all seven innings against the Wildcats and struck out four batters on the way to her fourth victory of the year. She also helped herself out offensively in the game as she went 1-for-1 with an RBI triple and two walks.
