ARLINGTON, Texas – Grand Canyon’s Eli Paton and Sacramento State’s Ethan Lay have been named the University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, March 9.

Paton, a redshirt senior infielder, batted .429 with two home runs, seven RBIs, a 1.000 slugging percentage and seven runs scored over four GCU wins last week. Paton went 4-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, five RBIs and three runs in a win against Pepperdine on March 4 and contributed a home run, two RBIs and two runs in game two of a three-game sweep of Texas Tech on March 8.

Lay, a junior transfer right-handed pitcher, was sensational in a no decision start that ultimately ended in a 1-0 Sacramento State win on a 10th inning walk-off home run. Lay only allowed three batters to reach safely over seven full innings, including two via error, spinning a one-hit outing with no walks and 11 strikeouts on 85 pitches.
