ST. GEORGE – The 2025 WAC Basketball Tournament began on Tuesday at the Burns Arena with No. 8 Utah Tech battling No. 9 Seattle U in the opening round of the women’s tournament. The Trailblazers defeated the Redhawks 74-60 to advance to the quarterfinals where they will take on No. 1 Grand Canyon on Wednesday, March 12 at 12 p.m. PT at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
Junior guard Aaliyah Ibarra led the scoring for both teams in the game, posting 21 points for her third 20+ point performance of the season. Ibarra shot 57.1 percent from the floor while making 4-of-8 shots from beyond the arc. Redshirt senior forward Emily Isaacson recorded 17 points and four steals in the game and made 9 out of her 10 free-throw attempts. Junior guard Chardonnay Hartley played a big role for Utah Tech as she registered 13 points, seven assists, four rebounds and two steals on the day.
Graduate forward Christeina Bryan logged her third-best scoring performance of the season for Seattle U with 17 points. Freshman guard Candy Edokpaigbe posted her eighth straight game with at least ten points as she notched 14 points along with six rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals. The Redhawks will finish the 2024-25 season with an overall record of 4-26.
