2025 WAC Basketball Tournament Central
LAS VEGAS – The quarterfinal round of the 2025 WAC Women’s Basketball Tournament wrapped up today as No. 5 Utah Valley defeated No. 4 Abilene Christian and No. 3 UT Arlington took down the defending champions No. 6 California Baptist. The semifinals will begin Friday, March 14 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Wolverines will battle the undefeated WAC regular season champions No. 1 Grand Canyon at 12 p.m. PT followed by the Mavericks taking on No. 2 Tarleton State at 2:30 p.m. PT for a spot in the championship game.
No. 5 Utah Valley 75, No. 4 Abilene Christian 65 | Box Score
No. 5 Utah Valley prevailed over No. 4 Abilene Christian 75-65 after falling to the Wildcats last week in the final regular season game of the year. This win also marked a new program record for wins in a season in the D1 era (18).
The Wolverines were powered by the offensive duo of redshirt senior Tahlia White and redshirt junior Amanda Barcello who combined for 50 points and 10 of UVU’s 11 made shots from the 3-point range. White totaled 26 points, four rebounds and two assists while making 4-of-5 shots from beyond the arc and all four attempts from the charity stripe. Barcello posted a career-high 24 points, hitting 6-of-8 shots from deep along with four rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
Sophomore forward Emma Troxell posted a career-high 20 points, 15 coming in the second half, on 7-of-12 shooting including four 3-pointers. Sophomore guard Payton Hull made her return to the court after missing the last two months of action due to a wrist injury, scoring 15 points with a team-high six rebounds and four assists. The Wildcats finish their 2024-25 season 20-12.
No. 3 UT Arlington 72, No. 6 California Baptist 66 | Box Score
No. 3 UT Arlington knocked out the defending WAC champions No. 6 California Baptist 72-66 to send the Lady Mavs to their second consecutive WAC tournament semifinals. UTA also got their revenge on the Lancers after CBU knocked out the Lady Mavs in last year’s conference tournament.
A trio of Lady Mavs notched over 15 points in the contest led by fifth year forward Avery Brittingham who recorded 20 points, her third time this season reaching that scoring mark. Fifth year forward Koi Love registered 18 points, five rebounds and three assists. Taliyah Clark collected her seventh double-digit scoring performance in the last eight games as the senior guard made 3-of-6 shots from the 3-point range and totaled 16 points.
Junior forward Grace Schmidt posted 23 points for California Baptist, her highest scoring total since Nov. 16, and was one rebound shy of a double-double. Senior guard Anaiyah Tu’ua recorded 11 points, eight boards and a team-high six assists on the afternoon. The Lancers close out the year with a 12-19 overall record.
