Diordan Macababbad and
Nikita Volonski have been honored as the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men’s Doubles Players of the Week, for the competition week ending on Sunday, March 16.
Freshman Diordan Macababbad and sophomore Nikita Volonski excelled in doubles play, contributing significantly to Grand Canyon's team efforts. The pair kicked off their weekend with a decisive 6-2 victory over Weber State on Court 2 on Sunday. This win marked a historical milestone, snapping a 10-match losing streak, it was their first victory against Weber State since 1973.
The duo maintained their strong performance into Friday, securing another 6-2 win against Montana on Court 2. Despite Grand Canyon narrowly losing the overall match 4-3, the efforts of Macababbad and Volonski were instrumental in challenging Montana, a team with an 11-3 record. Their successful outcomes this week helped Grand Canyon split its home matches and improved their season doubles record to 2-1.
