CONFERENCE PLAY IS ABOUT TO BEGIN
On the eve of the start of conference play in the WAC, six of the nine baseball members have won at least 10 games in nonconference matchups. Every WAC baseball club owned a home record at .500 or above as of March 20.
NINE STRAIGHT WINS FOR UVU PRIOR TO WAC PLAY
Utah Valley rides high into the start of conference play on a nine-game winning streak, sweeping series against Northern Colorado and Embry-Riddle. The Wolverines outscored the opposition 107-43 during the streak, batting .358 with 46 extra-base hits and 36 stolen bases.
Dominic Longo II captured WAC Player of the Week accolades on March 17, posting a .667 batting average with 10 RBIs, five steals and eight runs scored last weekend against Embry-Riddle. Longo’s 17 runs scored during the winning streak lead the Utah Valley lineup, with six different players scoring 10 or more runs over the past nine games.
UTAH TECH WINS SIX STRAIGHT HEADING INTO LEAGUE GAMES
Another red-hot team from the state of Utah carries a modest winning streak into the WAC schedule. Utah Tech registered six consecutive wins. The Trailblazers swept a four-game series with CSU Bakersfield before earning a key 10-3 win at in-state rival BYU on March 17.
Kyle McDaniel has continued his solid start to the season by batting .429 with a home run, five RBIs and six runs scored during the win streak.
CBU’S KITTREDGE WINS PITCHER OF THE WEEK AFTER SOLID START
California Baptist right-hander
Ryan Kittredge was named WAC Pitcher of the Week on March 17 following a quality start in a 4-1 CBU victory over Rutgers on March 16. Kittredge allowed three hits over 7.2 innings of shutout baseball, striking out five to pick up his first win of the season.
THE WAC IN THE NCAA RPI
Two teams from the WAC were included in the top 100 of the latest NCAA RPI rankings report on March 19. Grand Canyon paced the conference in 74th, followed by Utah Valley at 92nd in the most recent rankings report. The four wins against the current top 100 for the Lopes and Wolverines were tied with Utah Tech for the most in the conference.
