2025 WAC Baseball Release - Week 7

FOUR-WAY TIE AT 2-1 AFTER THE FIRST WEEKEND

The first four series of the 2025 WAC league season were each decided by 2-1 margins. California Baptist won two home games against Utah Tech, Grand Canyon took two of three at Abilene Christian, Sacramento State won the first two contests against UT Arlington and Utah Valley won the first and third games against Seattle U in Washington.

ACU DOMINATES NO. 17 DBU IN MIDWEEK PLAY
Following a competitive weekend series at home against Grand Canyon, Abilene Christian bounced back in a big way with a 7-1 home victory over No. 17 Dallas Baptist on March 25 in Abilene. The Wildcats out-hit DBU 12-4 in the win, outscoring the visitors 6-0 following the first inning.

THE BEST TEAM IN UTAH?
Utah Tech remained unbeaten against in-state foes thus far in 2025 with another impressive midweek win. After defeating BYU 10-3 on March 17 in Provo, the Trailblazers took down Utah 12-8 on March 25 in St. George. Utah Tech withstood a six-run rally from Utah in the top of the eighth inning with three insurance runs in the home half of the eighth.

THE PITCHERS HAVE THEIR DAY
Quality pitching performances were present on the first weekend of conference play last week. Abilene Christian left-hander Brett Lanman captured WAC Pitcher of the Week honors on March 24 after throwing a two-hit complete game with seven strikeouts in a 3-1 win against Grand Canyon. UT Arlington’s Nicholas Robb spun 7.2 innings of shutout baseball, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out seven in a no decision at Sacramento State, California Baptist’s Cody New tossed six shutout innings with four strikeouts against Utah Tech and Utah Valley’s Landon Zaborowski struck out nine Seattle U batters in four scoreless innings of relief.

THE WAC IN THE NCAA RPI
One team from the WAC was included in the top 100 of the latest NCAA RPI rankings report on March 26. Grand Canyon paced the conference in 56th in the most recent rankings report. The seven wins for the Lopes against opponents in the current Top 100, including a 4-2 win at No. 38 Oregon on March 11, led all WAC squads.
