ARLINGTON, Texas – Grand Canyon’s Savannah Kirk and Taryn Batterton have been named the Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, for the game week ending on Saturday, Mar. 29.
 
Kirk, a sophomore infielder, tallied an impressive .714 batting average last week after collecting 10 singles in 14 at-bats in GCU’s 4-0 week. Along with those 10 hits, Kirk walked three times, equaling an on-base percentage of .765. Kirk drove in six RBI, scored six runs, and was 4-for-4 on stolen bases last week to remain perfect on the basepaths with a nation-leading 29 stolen bags. Kirk continues to lead the WAC in batting average (.518) and total hits (58), making her the only player in the conference to have a batting average above .500 as well as the only player to have more than 50 hits.
 
Batterton, a junior right-handed pitcher, was one out away from her second no-hitter of the season as Batterton tossed a complete game shutout against California Baptist, Grand Canyon’s first full seven-inning complete game of the season. In the shutout versus the Lancers, Batterton struck out seven and allowed only one walk and one hit. Batterton racked up a total of 12.0 innings pitched over three appearances last week, allowing just one earned run while earning her tenth and eleventh wins of the season, the most in the WAC.
