ARLINGTON, Texas – Utah Valley’s Halle Nelson and UT Arlington’s Koi Love have been named the Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week, for the game week ending on Saturday, Mar. 8.
 
Nelson, a redshirt junior guard/forward, finished the regular season on a high note by tallying a career-high 22 points in Utah Valley’s senior day win over Tarleton State. Nelson also made all five of her attempts in Thursday’s game against Abilene Christian where she totaled 14 points. Nelson averaged 18.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals per game last week while shooting 82.4 percent (14-of-17) from the field including 2-of-3 shots from beyond the arc.
 
Love, a fifth-year forward transfer, collected her ninth WAC Newcomer of the Week honor this week, making Love the recipient of half of this season’s 18 WAC Newcomer weekly awards. Love led the Lady Mavs to a win over California Baptist in UT Arlington’s final regular season game by posting 26 points, 10 boards and 7 assists, three assists shy of her second triple-double on the year. Love’s 26 points is her second most recorded this season as she shot 58.8 percent (10-of-17) from the court and made 6-of-8 from the charity stripe.
