TARLETON STATE TAMES ANOTHER UNDEFEATED WAC TEAM
After handing Grand Canyon its first conference loss and first conference series loss last week, Tarleton State took down another previously undefeated WAC team in Seattle U as the Texans won the series against the Redhawks following a 10-2 win last Saturday. Tarleton State moved into fourth in the WAC standings and jumped into the top 100 in the softball RPI rankings at 95th.
GRAND CANYON’S GOLDEN ARMS
The Lopes are coming off a three-game sweep against California Baptist where they pitched two shutouts and held the Lancers to just four runs in the series. This week’s WAC Pitcher of the Week,
Taryn Batterton, pitched GCU’s first seven-inning complete-game shutout after being one out away from her second no-hitter of the season. The Lopes’ pitching staff is fifth in the nation in team ERA (1.91) with
Meghan Golden ranking fourth in the country individually with an ERA of 0.84.
DOUBLE THE FUN FOR SEATTLE U
Seattle U has hit the third most doubles in the nation (70) and the second most doubles per game (2.06). The Redhawks are six doubles shy of the nation leader Ohio State (76) and trail only Indiana (2.18) in doubles per game. Nine Redhawks have recorded at least five doubles so far this season including
Taylor Fitch and
Jasmine Wehn who are tied for third in the WAC with 10 doubles apiece.
CAPTAIN KIRK WITH A FIVE-STAR WEEK
Grand Canyon’s
Savannah Kirk is coming off a red-hot week where she won WAC Player of the Week after going 10-for-14 (.714) with six RBI, six runs scored, and four stolen bases. Kirk has recorded a hit in 31 of GCU’s 33 games this season. Kirk’s 58 hits are tied for the third most in the nation as she also holds the fourth best batting average at .518. Kirk is tied for the sixth most stolen bases in the country (29) while having the most stolen bases without being thrown out (1.000 pct).
NO RUNNING UP THAT HILL
Tarleton State’s
Kayln Hill is patrolling the Texans’ basepaths behind the plate as the senior catcher has thrown out 12 baserunners this season, tied for seventh most in the nation.
