2025 WAC Baseball Release - Week 10

UTAH VALLEY WINS SHOWDOWN WITH GCU TO TAKE CONFERENCE LEAD
Utah Valley stormed to the top of the conference standings with an emphatic series win at Grand Canyon last weekend. The Wolverines downed the Lopes 11-1 and 18-2 in seven innings over the first two games to claim the series victory. Landon Frei was named WAC Player of the Week after batting .375 with four home runs, 13 RBIs and nine runs in a 3-2 week for Utah Valley.

CBU’S OROZCO EARNS PITCHER OF THE WEEK FOLLOWING STELLAR RELIEF
California Baptist right-handed pitcher Julian Orozco earned WAC Pitcher of the Week following three solid outings out of the Lancer bullpen last week. Orozco posted a 1-0 record and spotless ERA over 6.1 innings pitched with three hits allowed, striking out nine batters. Orozco threw 4.2 innings of one-hit relief with seven strikeouts in a no decision during a CBU victory over Pacific on April 13.

ACU ON A ROLL WITH FOUR STRAIGHT WINS
Abilene Christian capped off a fourth consecutive victory with a 13-5 triumph over Incarnate Word on April 15. The Wildcats were already riding high after sweeping Utah Tech by final scores of 3-2, 8-7 and 11-5 last weekend. Ben Greer and Zandt Payne have combined for four home runs, 11 RBIs and 12 runs during the active ACU winning streak.

SAC STATE’S BROWN BACK AMONG THE NATIONAL SAVES LEADERS FOR A SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR
Sacramento State right-hander Kade Brown has earned nine saves over his first 14 relief appearances in 2025 to pace the WAC. Brown also checked in third in the latest NCAA Division I national statistics ranking from April 15. Brown has limited opposing hitters to a .160 batting average over 29.0 innings pitched, striking out 35 hitters while posting a 2.48 ERA thus far this season.

THE WAC IN THE NCAA RPI
One team from the WAC was included in the top 75 of the latest NCAA RPI rankings report on April 15. Grand Canyon paced the conference in the 55th position in the most recent rankings report. The 11 wins for the Lopes against opponents in the current Top 100, including Quad 1 wins against No. 20 Arizona (11-5) on April 1 and No. 53 Oregon (4-2) on March 11, led all WAC squads.
