ARLINGTON, Texas – Utah Valley’s Oakley Olson and Tarleton State’s Tayler Wessely have been named the Jersey Mike's A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for the meet week ending on Sunday, April 20.

Senior distance runner Oakley Olson delivered a record-breaking performance for Utah Valley at the Mt. SAC Relays. Competing in the Women’s 3,000m Steeplechase Elite race, Olson shattered the program’s outdoor record with a time of 10:18.78—earning runner-up honors in the event. The performance stands as the WAC’s top time this season and currently ranks 33rd in the West Region. Olson trimmed nearly four seconds off her personal best set earlier this season at Stanford and continues to hold the WAC’s leading mark in the event. She also ranks 10th in the conference in the 1500m after her appearance at the Utah Valley Collegiate meet in March.

Tarleton State junior Tayler Wessely had a dominant showing in the hammer throw at the Michael Johnson Invitational. Wessely broke the school record not once, but twice in the competition. She became the first woman in program history to eclipse the 50-meter mark with a throw of 51.55m in prelims, then went on to break her own record again in the finals with a massive 53.21-meter toss. That mark stands as the top hammer throw distance in the WAC this season.
