2025 WAC SB Week 12 Release
HISTORIC WEEK FOR GRAND CANYON
Grand Canyon took over Arlington last weekend and swept the Mavericks for its fourth consecutive WAC series sweep and to improve the winning streak to 14 games, the longest active winning streak in NCAA Division I softball and the new GCU single-season record. The Lopes cracked ESPN.com’s Top 25 for the first time in program history as GCU ranks No. 25 with 32 points. Grand Canyon also remains No. 1 in the D1 Softball Mid-Major Rankings. The Lopes can clinch the regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the WAC tournament with one win against Utah Tech this weekend.
BURNS’ HOMERS LEAD TO CALIFORNIA BAPTIST SWEEP
California Baptist’s
Kalena Burns was on another level last week as she homered in all four CBU games and recorded three multi-hit games and three multi-RBI games. The WAC Co-Player of the Week led the Lancers to a sweep over Utah Tech to collect CBU’s fifth straight conference win and moved the Lancers up to third in the WAC standings.
ABILENE CHRISTIAN UPSETS THE I-20 RIVALRY
Abilene Christian hosted Tarleton State for this year’s I-20 rivalry series as the Wildcats upset the Texans to improve to .500 in WAC play and hand Tarleton State its first WAC series loss since March 15. The Wildcats were able to win the series thanks to some crucial home runs from
Taylor Bachmeyer and
Catrin Hoffman as well as dominant pitching performances from
Lina Russo who went 14.0 innings deep on the weekend and allowed only two earned runs while striking out nine.
SOUTHERN UTAH TAKES THE SERIES IN SEATTLE
Southern Utah won its first road games of the season and secured the series win versus Seattle U with two wins in the Friday doubleheader. The Thunderbirds flew to a pair of victories following some strong showings in the pitching circle from
Emily Delgado and
Keimon Winston who both threw complete games and held the Redhawks a total of four runs in the doubleheader.
TARLETON STATE HITS 30 WINS
Tarleton State earned its 30th win of the season after defeating Prairie View A&M 7-2 on Tuesday afternoon. This is the third time in five years the Texans have reached the 30-win mark. The win against the Panthers also marks win No. 275 for head coach
Mark Cumpian. The Texans have an off week in WAC-play and will head to the east coast for a series against Providence.
