ARLINGTON, Texas – Southern Utah’s Arianna Ramirez and Abilene Christian’s Lina Russo have been named the Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, for the game week ending on Saturday, Apr. 26.
 
Ramirez, a sophomore infielder, earned her second WAC Player of Week honor in the last three weeks after being nearly unstoppable in the batter’s box and leading the Thunderbirds to a series win over UT Arlington. Ramirez went 9-for-11 (.818) at the plate hitting three home runs and three doubles for a total of 11 RBI and eight runs scored. Ramirez held an on base percentage of .846 and a slugging percentage of 1.909 for an astounding 2.755 OPS in the series. Ramirez led the nation last week in RBI per game (3.67) and runs per game (2.67) and was also top five in the country in batting average, home runs per game, and slugging percentage.
 
Russo, a senior right-hand pitcher, also picked up her second WAC Pitcher of the Week honor this season after leading the Wildcats to a series victory over California Baptist. Russo pitched two complete games last weekend against the Lancers and allowed only two earned runs in the 14.0 innings pitched and struck out six batters. Russo has now thrown four straight complete games and has won each of her last three games with a final score of 5-2. Her ERA is now at a season low 3.25.
