2025 WAC Baseball Release - Week 8
GCU TO THE TOP OF THE STANDINGS FOLLOWING WEEKEND SWEEP
Grand Canyon climbed into solo first place atop the WAC standings with a three-game sweep of Seattle U last weekend in Phoenix. The Lopes improved to 5-1 in league play with wins of 10-0 in eight innings, 6-5 in 11 innings and 7-5 against the Redhawks. Highlighting game one for GCU was WAC Pitcher of the Week
Isaac Lyon, who shined with eight shutout innings of four-hit baseball and eight strikeouts. GCU kept the momentum rolling in the midweek, downing Arizona by an 11-5 final score on April 1.
IVERSON WAS ON FIRE FOR THE WOLVERINES
Utah Valley catcher/outfielder
Luke Iverson earned this week’s WAC Player of the Week citation following his standout performance in a 3-1 surge for the Wolverines. Iverson batted .438 with three home runs, 11 RBIs and seven runs across four games, finishing with three or more RBIs against Portland on March 24 and in back-to-back games versus Abilene Christian on March 28-29.
HERE COMES CBU
California Baptist moved into a tie for second place with Utah Valley after winning three straight games against all opponents and six of the past seven overall. The Lancers owned the best team ERA in the WAC as of April 3, posting a 4.01 ERA as a staff while limiting opposing batters to a .257 average against.
UTAH TECH’S MONTGOMERY THIRD IN NATIONAL ERA

Cade Montgomery was not only the WAC leader in ERA as of April 3, but he was also among the top five pitchers in the nation in the statistic. Montgomery’s 1.24 ERA ranked third among Division I pitchers in the latest NCAA report, as the sophomore right-hander has only yielded five earned runs over his first 36.1 innings pitched in his 4-0 start to the season.
THE WAC IN THE NCAA RPI
One team from the WAC was included in the top 100 of the latest NCAA RPI rankings report on April 2. Grand Canyon paced the conference in the 72nd position in the most recent rankings report. The nine wins for the Lopes against opponents in the current Top 100, including an 11-5 win against No. 24 Arizona on April 1, led all WAC squads.
