ARLINGTON, Texas – Grand Canyon’s Michael Diaz and Utah Valley’s Jacob Heppner have been named the University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, April 6.

Diaz, a redshirt senior outfielder, batted .571 with four home runs, 16 RBIs, a 1.571 slugging percentage and seven runs for GCU over four games last week. After entering as a pinch hitter at California Baptist on April 4, Diaz finished 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs. Diaz added a 3-for-4 outing with two homers, five RBIs and three runs scored in game two versus CBU on April 5 and three hits, seven RBIs and three runs in the series finale on April 6.

Heppner, a redshirt sophomore left-handed pitcher, faced the minimum in a seven-inning shutout win over rival Utah Tech on April 6. Heppner allowed two hits and no free bases, striking out four Trailblazers on 71 pitches in a 15-0 Utah Valley victory.
