2025 WAC SB Week 10 Release

TARLETON STATE WINS SIXTH STRAIGHT AS SCHULTZ SETS TEXAN FRESHMAN RECORD
Tarleton State is fresh off a six-game winning streak after defeating North Texas 6-3 on Tuesday night and claiming its last five conference games including a sweep at Utah Tech last weekend. The Texans have won nine of their last 11 games and have jumped up to No. 24 in the D1 Softball Mid-Major Rankings. This week’s WAC Pitcher of the Week, Shelby Schultz, became the first freshman in the TSU D1 era to throw 100 strikeouts and became the first to do so in program history since 2017.
 
GRAND CANYON’S RECLAIMS THE TOP OF THE STANDINGS
Grand Canyon moved back to the top of the WAC standings after winning its seventh consecutive game and sweeping Southern Utah at home to improve its conference record to 9-2. GCU’s overall record of 30-6 gives the Lopes the 10th best win-loss percentage in the country at 0.833. The Lopes were ranked No. 4 in the D1 Softball Mid-Major Rankings. GCU will host Seattle U (8-4) this weekend in a battle for first place in the conference standings.
 
CALIFORNIA BAPTIST BOUNCES BACK AT SEATTLE
After being swept at home by Grand Canyon, California Baptist returned to the win column in Seattle and took the series versus the Redhawks. The Lancers held Seattle U’s offense to just one total run in their two wins in the series. Annika Hollingsworth pitched a complete game shutout with five strikeouts, followed by another complete game from Lili Arana who struck out four and allowed only one run.
 
GIBBS TIES UTAH VALLEY’S HOME RUN RECORD
Redshirt senior Megan Gibbs hit her 41st career home run against Abilene Christian on Saturday, tying the Utah Valley program record that was set in 2014. Gibbs leads the Wolverines with six home runs this season, tied for the eighth most in the WAC.
 
UTA AND ACU SET MIDWEEK ATTENDANCE RECORDS
UT Arlington and Abilene Christian each hosted a ranked opponent in a midweek matchup which resulted in a couple of record-breaking attendances. UTA hosted #2 Oklahoma on Tuesday, April 1 for the highest ever Maverick attendance of 1,228 fans. ACU then hosted #14 Texas Tech on Wednesday, April 2 and brought in 1,261 fans for an ACU D1 attendance record.
