2025 WAC Baseball Release - Week 13

SACRAMENTO STATE TAKES OVER THE CONFERENCE LEAD

A new leader emerged at the top of the WAC standings following last week’s conference series slate, Sacramento State. The Hornets traveled to Grand Canyon and took two of three games from the Lopes in Phoenix to move into solo first place at 12-6 (.667). GCU slotted in second with a 13-8 (.619) league record, followed by Abilene Christian at 11-7 (.611).

GCU’S SUCCESS AGAINST IN-STATE TEAMS CONTINUES
Grand Canyon improved to 3-1 this season in nonconference games against in-state major college foes, dropping No. 22 Arizona 5-2 on May 6 in Phoenix. The Lopes previously bested the Wildcats 11-5 on April 1 and defeated Arizona State 7-6 on April 22 in Phoenix. GCU and Arizona State are scheduled to collide one more time on May 13 at Phoenix Municipal Stadium in the final nonconference midweek game of the season for the Lopes.

DUMESNIL CAPTURES WAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
California Baptist outfielder and preseason WAC Player of the Year Nick Dumesnil picked up his first weekly conference award of the 2025 season following a strong performance for 3-1 CBU last week. Dumesnil batted .500 with four extra base hits, five RBIs and a .611 on-base percentage in leading the Lancers to a series victory over Tarleton State.

MCAFEE LEADS UTA TO SERIES WIN OVER UTAH VALLEY
Another signature offensive performance from a WAC outfielder last week was turned in by UT Arlington’s Xander McAfee. McAfee drove in six runs and scored four times in a series sweep of Utah Valley, who had been in a tie for first place in the conference standings entering the week. McAfee’s efforts highlighted a UTA offense that batted .416 as a team and outscored Utah Valley 37-18 during the three-game set in Arlington.
