WAC VB25 Release Week 3
UT ARLINGTON REMAINS AS FINAL UNDEFEATED WAC TEAM
UT Arlington brought the brooms out for the second consecutive week as the Mavericks swept the Cowgirl Classic hosted by McNeese and defeated UL Monroe (3-1), McNeese (3-2) and Alcorn (3-0). With the three wins over the weekend, the defending WAC champs stand alone as the final undefeated volleyball team in the conference this season. UTA has compiled a 26-1 record over its last 27 matches dating back to last year, with the one loss coming to No. 6 USC in the NCAA Tournament.
UTAH TECH SWEEPS HOME TOURNAMENT
Utah Tech keeps on rolling as its winning streak extends to four after sweeping its home tournament and taking wins from Weber State (3-0), Charleston Southern (3-0) and Sacramento State (3-2). Four of UTU’s five wins this season have come in straight sets.
Kennedi Knudsen was tabbed WAC Player of the Week for the second straight week after being named the MVP of the Utah Tech Tournament where she posted a pair of double-doubles with 54 total kills and 59.0 total points.
UTAH VALLEY TAKES TWO IN HAWAII
Utah Valley made its way to the islands of Hawaii to compete in the Outrigger Invitational where the Wolverines took two wins out of three matches which included sweeps over San Jose State and last year’s NIVC Fab 4 participant, St. John’s. UVU’s
Evalyn Chism and
Lani Matavao were selected as the WAC’s Setter and Libero of the Week, respectively. Chism assisted the Wolverines to a WAC-best .272 team hitting percentage last week with 8.78 assists per set and Matavao recorded 3.56 digs per set for the second-most in the WAC.
MAVERICKS AND WOLVERINES LEADING THE NATIONAL STATISTICAL RANKINGS
As of Sept. 9, UT Arlington has tallied the most team service aces in the country with 67. Three Maverick players have notched at least 10 aces so far this season led by
Alexis Bull’s 15, and the team has recorded four matches with at least 10 aces with a match-high of 16 against Alcorn being the most in a match this season for the WAC.
Bella Wooden and Utah Valley lead the country in individual total blocks (50.0) and team total blocks (86.0). Wooden has notched at least five total blocks and the Wolverines have recorded at least nine total blocks in all seven matches so far this season.
