CALIFORNIA BAPTIST WINS THE BATTLE OF THE UNDEFEATED
California Baptist stands alone as the final undefeated team remaining in WAC play at 5-0 as the Lancers traveled to Utah and defeated Utah Tech 75-67 and Southern Utah 82-77 where the Lancers handed the Thunderbirds their first WAC loss in an overtime thriller between the top two teams in standings.
Grace Schmidt led the scoring for CBU and posted 23 points followed by
Emma Johansson who dropped 21 points in the game, marking season-highs for both Lancers.
Lauren Olsen recorded 16 points in the game including the all-important buzzer-beating bucket at the end of regulation where she tied the game at 69 apiece and forced overtime against Southern Utah, saving the Lancers from defeat. Olsen then led California Baptist in the overtime period where she scored nine of the Lancers’ 13 points.
ABILENE CHRISTIAN TAKES DOWN TEXAS FOES
Abilene Christian kept its 2025-26 home record perfect at 9-0 after winning its first two conference home games against Tarleton State 64-59 and UT Arlington 59-56. The Wildcats jump into a tie for second in the WAC standings with Southern Utah as both teams sit at 3-1 heading into the third weekend of league play.
Meredith Mayes led the Wildcats against the Texans as she collected 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field.
Erin Woodson and
Natalia Chavez combined for 37 of the team’s 59 points against the Lady Mavs with Chavez going 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. The Wildcats will now face their toughest test yet of the conference schedule as they travel to the undefeated Lancers on Thursday, then turn around to host Southern Utah on Saturday.
UTAH TECH WINS ROUND ONE OF THE OLD HAMMER RIVALRY
Utah Tech picked up its first WAC win of the season last Saturday when the Trailblazers overcame Utah Valley’s stellar defense and defeated the Wolverines 65-54 in the first round of the Old Hammer Rivalry this season.
Kaylee Borden was one board shy of a double-double as the she led the Trailblazers with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Lauren Crocker took advantage of just her second start of the season by notching a career-high 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc.
AVA UHRICH EARNS SECOND WAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR ON THE SEASON
Southern Utah’s
Ava Uhrich became the first player to repeat as a WAC Player of the Week award winner this season following a dominant week where she recorded two double-doubles. Uhrich led Southern Utah to a victory over Utah Valley with 20 points and 16 rebounds and followed with 19 points and 17 boards in the overtime contest with California Baptist. Uhrich is now second in the WAC with seven double-doubles this season and is leading the conference with a 12.75 rebounding average in league play.
MAKING BUCKETS WITH MEREDITH MAYES
Abilene Christian’s
Meredith Mayes doesn’t take the most shots on the court, but when she does, she makes them count. Mayes is ranked third in the nation in field goal percentage, shooting 68.2 percent on the season (101-of-148). Mayes has shot 50.0 percent or better from the field in all but one of 16 contests played this season, recording at least five attempts in all of the games. The WAC record of best field goal percentage in a season is 66.7 percent which was set in 1991-92 by San Diego State’s Michelle Suman.
