ARLINGTON, Texas – Tarleton State’s Aya Ishii, Ximena Morales and Emma Persson have been named the Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tennis Players of the Week, for the match week ending on Monday, Mar. 9.
 
Ishii, a freshman, became the first player this season to win a second WAC Singles Player of the Week award after she went 2-0 at No. 2 singles this weekend in Tulsa. Ishii defeated Kansas City’s Alessandra Xibilia 7-6, 6-4 and Isabella Basson of Tulsa 7-5, 6-4. Ishii became the fifth Texan freshman in the DI era to register double-digit singles wins in a season.
 
Morales and Persson, seniors, won their first two matches together as a duo and helped the Tarleton State clinch the doubles point both against Kansas City and Tulsa. The pair took down Kansas City’s Catherine Chrobak/Amai Gati 6-2 and Tulsa’s Tayla Wilmot/Corai Valle 6-4 on No. 2 doubles. Morales won her fifth doubles match of the season while Persson picked up her sixth in 2026.
