Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above WAC Softball Players of the Week Announced

ARLINGTON, Texas – Utah Tech’s Kennedy Embrey and California Baptist’s Miranda De Nava have been named the Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, Mar. 29.
 
Embrey, a sophomore outfielder, led Utah Tech to a series victory over Southern Utah after recording a batting average of .700 in the series, picking up at least two hits in all three games. Embrey went 3-for-4 with a grand slam, her first home run of the season, and five RBIs in a 13-5 victory in game two of the Friday double-header.
 
De Nava, a sophomore right-handed pitcher, collected her second straight WAC Pitcher of the Week honor, and fourth overall this season, after notching two wins in the pitching circle and allowing just one earned run in 23.0 innings pitched on the week. De Nava started the week with five shutout innings against UC Santa Barbara, allowing just one hit. She followed with a complete game two-hit shutout in game one of the Friday double-header versus Utah Valley. De Nava then threw an additional 11.0 innings against the Wolverines in an extra-inning game two of the double-header. De Nava threw over 140 pitches in the game with less than 30 balls as she allowed one earned run in the game and secured her WAC-leading 12th win of the season. De Nava tallied 22 strikeouts on the week and allowed just 11 hits in the 23.0 total innings pitched.
