ARLINGTON, Texas – Stephen F. Austin’s Izabella Ortiz, Grand Canyon’s Klaire Mitchell and California Baptist’s Brianna Young have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Volleyball Player, Setter and Libero of the week, for the match week ending on Monday, Oct. 2.   
 
Ortiz, a sophomore middle blocker, has continued to be offensively and defensively effective for the ‘Jacks this season as she earned her second consecutive WAC Player of the Week honor. Ortiz recorded 19 kills in Stephen F. Austin's sweeps against Utah Valley and Seattle U. She had a .630 hitting percentage on the week and averaged 3.17 kills per set. Ortiz added 11 blocks to her conference leading total of 90 which ranks fourth in the nation in total blocks.
 
Mitchell, a graduate student, led Grand Canyon to its eighth straight match with a .300-plus hitting clip for a team hitting percentage of .402 on the week. Michell recorded 63 assists (10.50 a/s) in back-to-back sweeps of Abilene Christian and Tarleton State. She also had 15 digs (2.50 d/s), three total blocks, three kills and seven points.
 
Young made her second and third start of the season at libero and recorded a career-high 27 digs and five assists in a five-set thriller against Abilene Christian. Young also recorded her first career kill off a spectacular dig that went over the heads of the Abilene Christian defense. Young’s 46 total digs (5.11 d/s) helped the Lancers go 1-1 on the week with a win over Tarleton State and a tight loss to ACU.
