2023 WAC Volleyball Release - NCAA VB Tournament 

GRAND CANYON CLAIMS FIRST WAC TOURNAMENT TITLE
The Grand Canyon Lopes are the 2023 WAC Tournament Champions! The Lopes swept California Baptist in the quarterfinals and then UTRGV in the semifinal round. Grand Canyon had a dominant 3-1 win over WAC regular season champions Stephen F. Austin to secure its first ever WAC tournament title.
 
MITCHELL NAMED WAC TOURNAMENT MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER
Grand Canyon’s graduate student setter Klaire Mitchell was named the 2023 WAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player for her impressive play during last week’s tournament. Mitchell averaged 11.60 a/s, 4.00 d/s and a .400 hitting clip. She recorded two double-doubles in the tournament with 32 assists and 10 digs against UTRGV and 49 assists and a career-high 25 digs against Stephen. F. Austin.
 
TWO WAC TEAMS ARE IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT!
Grand Canyon, the winner of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Volleyball Tournament and conference automatic bid, and Stephen F. Austin, the top team in the WAC regular-season standings, officially received entry into the 2023 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship on Sunday.
 
The 2023 NCAA Championship marks the 19th time that multiple WAC volleyball teams have qualified for the national tournament, the most recent being the 2010 season.
 
The Lopes were placed in the bottom left quadrant and will face No. 4 Washington State in the first round on Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. PT in Pullman, Washington. The winner will advance to play against No. 5 Dayton/Pepperdine. Grand Canyon is on a four-match winning streak entering its first NCAA Championship appearance.
 
Stephen F. Austin (29-4) starts off its 2023 NCAA Championship journey as an at-large selection at No. 3 Arkansas on Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. CT. The ‘Jacks went undefeated during conference play (16-0) and are set to make their second consecutive NCAA appearance as a WAC member. The winner will advance to face off against No. 6 Florida State/TCU.
 
The 2023 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship will be held at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. The national semifinals will be held on December 14, 2023. The two teams winning in the semifinals will advance and compete in the national championship which will take place December 17,2023.
 
UT ARLINGTON HEADED TO NIVC
The bracket for the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC) was released on Sunday and the UT Arlington Mavericks are in. The Mavs will open tournament play on Friday, Dec. 1 against Florida Atlantic at 6 p.m. CT at Memorial Gym on the campus of UTEP.
