2023 WAC VB Release Week 4

GRAND CANYON SWEEPS IOWA

Grand Canyon captured a dominating 3-0 win over Iowa behind a whopping .367 team hitting percentage. Tatum Parrott led the Lopes with 14 kills, four aces and six digs. WAC Setter of the Week Klaire Mitchell produced 32 assists, five digs and three kills. 

CALIFORNIA BAPTIST BEATS OREGON STATE IN FIVE SET THRILLER 
The Lancers win over the Beavers was the program’s first-ever win against a PAC-12 foe and the second over a major conference opponent. Nicole Mauser had 14 kills, Leah Pease had 26 assists while Reese Reed chipped in 13 assists, and Mia Jerue recorded 17 digs. 

STEPHEN F. AUSTIN’S HEAD COACH DEBBIE HUMPHREYS SECURES 800TH CAREEER WIN
The Ladyjacks defeated Boise State in a 3-2 win on Sept. 8 to secure Debbie Humphreys’ 800th career win. Coach Humphreys is now the fourth active coach and the 20th Division I of all-time to reach this milestone. She is one of two active coaches to achieve 800 wins at one institution, only behind Mary Wise who is currently the head coach at Florida.

JERUE STEPS UP TO LEAD CALIFORNIA BAPTIST TO THREE GAME WINNING STREAK 
WAC Libero of the Week Mia Jerue is usually an outside hitter for the Lancers but due to injuries, the junior was called to play libero the past two weekends. At the California Baptist-UC Riverside tournament this past weekend, Jerue compiled 52 digs, 14 assists, and eight aces to secure wins over Nevada, Oregon State and UC Riverside.  

KILLS GALORE 
Tarleton State’s Allison Bryant leads the WAC in total kills with 142, while Seattle U’s Arianna Bilby leads in kills per set with 4.21. 

UTAH VALLEY GEARS UP FOR IN-STATE RIVALS  
Utah Valley takes on (RV) Utah State on Sept. 14, then hosts No. 19 BYU on Sept. 15. Last year, 3,018 fans showed up to the matchup between Utah Valley and BYU, while 1,398 came to see the Wolverines and Utah State go head-to-head.
