2024 WAC VB Release Week 7
UT ARLINGTON REMAINS UNDEFEATED IN CONFERENCE PLAY
UT Arlington stands alone as the final undefeated team left in WAC play at 4-0. The Mavericks are cruising on a hot streak coming into the new week on a five-game winning streak. The Mavs look to remain perfect as they host Seattle U on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. CT and travel to Abilene Christian Saturday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. CT.
SWEET SWEEPS FOR GRAND CANYON
After suffering a loss in its opening conference match, Grand Canyon has won its last three matches including two sweeps last week against Utah Valley and California Baptist. The Lopes recorded 16 blocks against UVU, the most in a three-set match in the program’s 12-year D-I history. Senior junior outside hitter Tatum Parrott returned from an ankle sprain injury and tallied 27 kills (4.5/set) and notched 4.92 points per set last week.
ABILENE CHRISTIAN TAKES TWO
Abilene Christian took the fifth sets in two intense matches last week against California Baptist and Seattle U to get back to .500 in conference play. Senior outside hitter Bryley Steinhilber picked up double-doubles in both matches while sophomore outside hitter Alexis Strong set a new career high of 23 kills against the Redhawks.
WAC RPI RANKINGS
The NCAA released its first RPI rankings of the season this week and the WAC reached as high as 75th with UT Arlington. Grand Canyon also saw itself inside the top 150 currently at 138th.
BATTLE FOR SECOND
As the WAC heads into the third week of conference play, Grand Canyon, Utah Tech, and Southern Utah sit tied for second place at 3-1 in the conference standings behind the Mavericks. The Lopes will travel to both Utah schools this week, beginning with the Trailblazers on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. MT followed by the Thunderbirds on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. MT.
