2024 WAC VB Release Week 12

UT ARLINGTON WINS THE REGULAR SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP
UT Arlington secured the first overall seed in the 2024 WAC Volleyball Tournament and the outright regular season championship with two wins last week. The Mavericks claim their first regular season title since 2002. UTA increases its winning streak to 15 straight games and moves up to 49th in the NCAA women’s volleyball RPI rankings.

SOUTHERN UTAH AND CALIFORNIA BAPTIST CLINCH PLAYOFFS SPOT
Southern Utah locked up its spot in the postseason with a 3-2 win over Tarleton State. California Baptist notched its spot in the WAC tournament with two strong wins against the second and third place teams in the conference standings, Grand Canyon and Utah Tech.

GRAND CANYON LOCKS THE SECOND SEED IN WAC TOURNAMENT
Grand Canyon will take on the seventh seed in the WAC Volleyball Tournament as the Lopes have clinched the second seed in the conference playoffs. If Utah Tech were to tie GCU in the final standings, the Lopes would hold the tiebreaker as they have won both head-to-head matchups with the Trailblazers.

ACU’S MADELINE GUFFY HITS 2,000 CAREER ASSISTS
In a five-set showdown with Utah Valley, Abilene Christian’s Madeline Guffy reached 2,000 career assists, as she finished the night with 47 assists. Throughout her career at ACU, Guffy has recorded 511 assists in 2022, 916 assists in 2023, and currently sits at 584 in 2024.

ALLISON BRYANT SETS TARLETON STATE KILLS RECORD
On Monday night, Allison Bryant tallied nine kills against UTA, bringing her season total to 387 and breaking the record for most kills in a Tarleton State D-I season, previously held by Lauren Kersey who totaled 381 kills in 2021. Bryant has recorded double-digit kills in 20 of TSU’s 27 matches this year and notched a season-high of 27 kills against McNeese (9/17).

TWO POSTSEAON SPOTS LEFT TO GRAB
With one week remaining in the regular season, three teams are left fighting for two open slots in the 2024 WAC Volleyball Tournament. Abilene Christian and Seattle U hold the easier routes to the postseason, while Tarleton State will need some help to keep its season going. Here’s how the three remaining teams can clinch a playoff spot:
- Abilene Christian: Win one game OR one TSU loss
- Seattle U: Win one game OR one TSU loss
- Tarleton State: Win both games & ACU loses both games OR SU loses both games & TSU wins both games (TSU must beat SU 3-0 or 3-1 to win the tiebreaker)
