ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington’s Brianna Ford, Utah Valley’s Evalyn Chism and Lani Matavao have been named the Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Volleyball Player, Setter, and Libero of the week, for the match week ending on Monday, Sept. 2.
 
Ford, a graduate outside hitter, led UT Arlington to a 3-0 weekend in the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic with sweeps over Murray State, Jackson State, and Louisiana. This is the first time since 1988 that the Mavericks have opened the season with three-consecutive sweeps. Ford totaled 38 kills (4.22/set), 45.5 points (5.06/set), 16 digs (1.78/set), 9 total blocks (1.00/set), four assists (0.44/set), and three aces (0.33/set) while hitting .395 on the weekend. Ford began the season with 18 kills, seven digs, and a .429 hitting percentage against Murray State. She followed that performance with a .467 hitting percentage against Jackson State where she also collected five digs. Ford closed the weekend against the home team of Louisiana where she recorded 11 kills, eight blocks, and four digs.
 
Chism, a sophomore setter, became the first Utah Valley player since 2007 to have 40 assists in a match with a career-high performance of 43 assists against CSU Bakersfield. Chism finished the weekend with 115 (11.5/set) assists, 23 digs (2.3/set), ten kills (1.0/set), six blocks (0.6/set), and three aces (0.3/set). She notched her first double-double of the year with 37 assists and 11 digs against Eastern Washington. Chism helped Utah Valley to a 3-0 weekend on their home court and was selected to the UVU All-Tournament Team.
 
Matavao, a sophomore libero, also played a big role in Utah Valley’s undefeated start to the season as she totaled 35 digs (3.5/set) and six assists (0.6/set). Matavao recorded 16 digs in the Wolverines season-opening win over Eastern Washington and was named to the UVU All-Tournament Team as well.
