WAC VB25 Release Week 5
UTAH VALLEY SWEEPS THE OPENING CONFERENCE WEEKEND
Utah Valley began the 2025 conference season with back-to-back sweeps over Abilene Christian and Tarleton State. The Wolverines set a program record for the most total blocks in the three-set match with 19 against the Wildcats, led by this week’s WAC Player of the Week,
Bella Wooden, who recorded 11 total blocks.
Avery Page and
Sami Blackett led the offensive attack against the Texans with 29 kills combined between the two outside hitters.
UTU AND UTA OPEN WAC PLAY WITH A SWEEP
Utah Tech and UT Arlington concluded the first week of WAC play with a 1-0 record, each picking up a win against Southern Utah. The Trailblazers picked up their seventh sweep of the season, and the first in Cedar City since 2021, as UTU held the Thunderbirds to a negative hitting percentage at -.048.
The Mavericks began their WAC title defense with a sweep over SUU on Saturday, their 17th consecutive conference win dating back to last year. UTA was led by
Jalie Tritt and
Camryn McMinn who combined 28 of the team’s 41 total kills.
FRANK LEADS TARLETON STATE TO VICTORY
Tarleton State split the first week of conference play and earned its first road win of the season at California Baptist with a 3-1 victory. One-third of the Texans’ total kills against CBU were recorded by
Madison Frank as the middle blocker notched 18 kills with a hitting percentage of .400. Frank tied for the third most kills from the first week of WAC play with 23.
CALIFORNIA BAPTIST BOUNCES BACK
After suffering the conference opening loss to the Texans, the Lancers bounced back with a 3-1 win over Abilene Christian.
Emery Dejong notched a team-high 12 kills while
Lucy Ryan recorded a .600 hitting percentage with nine kills and no errors on 15 attacks. Setter
Maddie Brown tallied the most total assists (65) from the opening conference weekend including 31 against ACU, leading the team to a .235 hitting percentage in the match.
